RESTAURANTS IN ALCUDIA
It is difficult to be specific about recommendations because businesses often change hands and a good restaurant one year may not be so good the next. There are numerous restaurants in the main street behind Carabela although out of the main season some of them will be closed. Most of them have similar menus. The ones with live music tend to be busier than those without, but if they’re very busy they may want you to finish quickly so they can get the next group at your table. There are also some interesting restaurant/bars in the side streets of the old town, and these can often provide better value for money.
I do feel able to recommend the following:-
Bistro Mar - on the marina. Run by a Scandinavian lady who ran another successful restaurant in Alcudia for many years. Good Ambience with pleasant views of the port across the water.
Ca'n Punyetes - This is in C/ Barques, a small street running parallel to the seafront. Walk up Cala Mariners opposite the taxi rank and turn right into Carrer Barques. Authentic Spanish food. Try the tapas, especially the green peppers. We eat here at least once on every visit. The food is always good and excellent value, served by the same friendly staff year after year. It must be good because the locals use it.
Bodega D'es Port - This is in Teodoro Canet. Walk past the marina along the pedestrian precinct until you reach the end of the harbour. You will see the restaurant on the other side of the road. This also serves "real" Spanish food, but has become more expensive over the years and the service can sometimes seem rushed at busy times.
Bogavante – Also in C/ Teodoro Canet, just beyond the Tabac. More upmarket so not particularly cheap but good value with excellent food and service. Fish and sea food specialities. Gluten free and vegetarian diets catered for. Tel 971 547364. Bogavante Webpage
Don Vito Trattoria / Pizzeria - Turn left out of Carabela and it’s just past the traffic lights on the left side of the main road. Huge range of pizzas at reasonable prices as well as Italian meat and fish dishes. Should be something here to suit all the family.
L’Arca d’en Peter – This is in the Old Town – C/ d’en Serra, which is the street that leads to the old town between the big car park and the market. Interesting dining room with a glass floor showing the old cellars below, or eat outside in the garden. Gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian diets catered for. The chargrilled vegetables starter is highly recommended. Disappointingly, however, the menu doesn’t seem to have changed recently, so perhaps they’re becoming complacent. Tel 971 539178. Es Canyar - Also in the old town, at the top of C/ Major in the corner of the main square next to the pharmacy. The pavement tables are much the same as the other bars & restaurants, and the interior of the restaurant is unremarkable. The real gem is the delightful garden hidden at the rear, reached through the main bar. The main dinner menu comprises a small number of individual dishes, regularly changed, allowing the chef to use his skills to good effect. The meat and fish dishes are imaginative and delicious. Leave room for the further delights of the pudding menu. The owner, Karim Gaafar, is an Egyptian Old Etonian (yes really!) who is working hard to provide a different experience for locals and tourists. Highly recommended.
Restaurante Jardin – Prices on a par with Bogavante. Just off the main road behind the Sunwing Hotel, next to the tennis courts. Turn left out of the rear of the apartments and walk for about 15 minutes (or take a bus) towards Ca’n Picafort. Go past the Magic Centre roundabout and it’s past the tennis courts on your left. Alternatively walk along the beach to the main building of the Sunwing Hotel complex. Go through reception and make your way to the main road. Menu isn’t extensive but the food and service are always excellent. Gluten free and vegetarian diets catered for. Tel 971 892391. Jardin Webpage
Ca'n Pacienci - On the road between Porto Pollensa and Pollensa. Look for the yellow sign on your right shortly before you reach Pollensa. Owned by an Englishman who has kept the same staff for years. We have eaten here on every Majorcan holiday for about 20 years. They have changed from a set menu to a normal A La Carte which costs about 45 Euros for 3 courses including wine, obviously significantly less if you have fewer courses. Delicious food and excellent service. Not suitable for very young children. Booking advisable - Tel 530787. Ca'n Pacienci Webpage
S’Alhambra – Opposite the Bahia Hotel in Avenida De La Playa. A certain lack of ambience but the pizzas are very good so we felt we should include it on this list. The menu is varied, including tapas.
Piero Rossi - Keep going past Bogavante and you will find several restaurants and bars on your left. The last one, after about 400 metres, is Piero Rossi. Excellent pizza and pasta in a quieter atmosphere than the main port area.
